Third in the American Pie series, Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) are the unlikely couple (yet totally meant for each other) who finally decide to get married. Of course no wedding in history has come off without a hitch, yet, I don’t think that the issues this group has had to deal with would be considered normal. I would definitely credit the wedding Proposal as original, only in Jim & Michelle fashion. As we get the same “template” of disasters from the past movies (What does Jim do to himself, or what does Steve get “excited” about), they are still refreshing…..no wait, maybe the better word is “gross”??
Jim must meet and impress Michelle’s parents whom he’s meeting for the first time. Let’s just say, he spends a good portion of the movie trying to “prove” why he would be a good husband. What on earth would have happened to make his parent-in-laws think otherwise.
Fred Willard plays Harold (Michelle’s father), good casting. Wonder if Harold and Jim’s Dad were related in a former life? We also meet Michelle’s sister, Cadence (January Jones) who does take after her big sister. While Cadence has a following of men, who will win her heart.
As each American Pie has concentrated on other characters, we spend much more time looking into the “real” Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott). Steve has a much bigger role (and just as big an ego). He shows his diversity in the “arts” and “decorating” areas, and as much as we hate to admit it, we grow to kind of like him…..kind of.
This movie is good if you go with the intention of being entertained and not educated. There are no life lessons to be learned (except what not to do), but it is with American Pie style that we can laugh and be thankful that everything happens to them and not us (hopefully).
