Well, Since Lyn and I are both fans of Batman, we thought why not add this film to our list…
Batman Dead end is a short 9-minute “film” co-produced, written and directed by Sandy Collora. Originally meant to be a short to showcase his abilities of special effects, and also just a personal project for the joy of creating.

Storyline: The Joker (Andrew Koenig) has escaped from the Arkham mental hospital and Batman (Clark Bartram) is in pursuit. As he finally catches up with the Joker, lets just say that he meets up with a few additional characters on this dead end street.

I first read about this film and Sandy in a Macintosh magazine. Yes, this film is available on the web for free. You can either download it or view it on Sandy’s website. Thanks to Sandy for making this file free! You can also download the full 160 Meg file here at TheForce.net. You may also need to download an additional MPEG 2 viewer (I had to, on my Mac, and Lyn had to also on his windows machine.) I used a free file from www.videolan.org.

First off, I just have to say that this 8-minute film was better than most of the full length feature films I’ve seen all year. Sandy and crew did a fantastic job in effects, execution, and overall feel of the piece. I still can’t believe he filmed most of this in the rain as well.
Andrew Koenig did a great job portraying the crazy Joker.
There is a certain “homemade” quality to the film, which must be overlooked. This is after all a small independent film, and does not have a big Hollywood budget behind it, (supposedly cost around $30,000!). There is one shot in particular that should have been edited out, it shows actor Clark Bartram who plays Batman, from a rather unflattering camera angle that gives him the appearance of having a beer belly gut. This is a very minor nitpicky point I admit.
After the incredible ending I found myself wanting to see the next version!
If you have a broadband connection I would highly recommend that you download this gem. If you don’t have broadband, try the streaming video on Sandy’s website, or find someone who would be willing to download and burn a copy on a cd for you. It’s worth the 160 Meg wait. (Yes, this is legal to do in this case).

Good job!
Jef

Here’s what Lyn thought…
