Finally, a movie deserved of
a "Green Light".
I thoroughly enjoy this little action adventure flick. It kind of reminded
me of a movie I saw years ago named "Big Trouble in Little China",
because "Bulletproof Monk" followed the same basic premise as
such and never took itself too seriously. There is nothing worse than
an action film that imposes too much gravity upon itself. It was a very
clever mix of conflict, comedy, and not overpowering on the romantic side.
The fight scenes were reminiscent of the "Matrix", but again,
not overly so. And as if this weren't enough, you get all the before mentioned
bits and pieces plus a healthy dose eastern philosophy to boot.
And of course the topper of all toppers, it was based on a comic book
of the same name. I have to admit I had never heard of the title before,
but being a recovering "Fan Boy" (that's a comic book geek,
in case you don't know, and why should you?) this would be a shining example
of a successful conversion from the comic book realm to the silver screen.
Trust me, cause my review of "Daredevil" wasn't quite so positive
or pleasant.
Anyway, all in all, this was a fine light-hearted movie, and a tip of
the hat to director Paul Hunter, who made an outstanding effort in his
movie directorial debut. And of course not to forget the fine cast of
characters, a job well done. Bravo!
So, now off to eBay® to see if I can get my hands on a copy of the
1st issue of "Bulletproof Monk" (some old habits die hard) .
