This will be a short review here…

Storyline: Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a hired assassin. Max (Jamie Foxx) is a taxi cab driver. Why Vincent doesn’t have his own car is a little beyond me, but for the sake of this movie he doesn’t. So in order to complete his jobs, he gets in Max’s taxi and “hires” him to be his personal chauffer for the rest of the night. Max doesn’t like a gun pointed at him, (who does?) so he goes along with the deal.

I was really disappointed with this movie because I felt it had such potential. First off, the acting was great. I am a big fan of Tom Cruise (especially his last film that I saw “The Last Samurai”). I was a little hesitant over Jamie Foxx, but he really held his own in this movie and that’s is saying something when you are sharing the screen with Tom. I wasn’t too impressed with Jada Pinkett Smith’s role as “Annie”. Luckily for me, she didn’t have a lot of screen time. I think this was mostly because I had her type cast in my own head as being “Niobe” from The Matrix.

What really dragged this movie down for me was the lack of speed. The movie just dragged on and on. I liked the over story, and concept of the movie. I think it could have been a great film. But I can’t quite put my finger on it as to why this seemed to drag for me. I think it may have been too many “Hollywood coincidences”. I am always forgiving of a few of these coincidences that make for a good movie, but there is a limit. Some of the items in this film were just a little too unbelievable for me to take.

I’m not going to beat up on this movie too much. I was just disappointed is all I’m saying. I expected a really great Tom Cruise movie, and instead got a long film that seemed to drag on forever. That being said, I would like to see Tom Cruise in more “bad guy” roles like this one. I think he played a good villian.
