Storyline: Ellie (Christina Ricci) is a talent scout for the Craig Kilborn show. Her brother Jake (Joshua Jackson) is a nerdy high school kid. One night on their way home they get in a car accident, and after a few more details that I’ll leave out, both Ellie and Jake have been bit by something… something that looks like… Well I won’t spoil it for you. Short review with no spoilers… Maybe if I were 17 again, and just getting out to the movie theaters and seeing horror movies for the first time, I “might” have liked this movie. But, now that I have seen MANY horror movies, this was just another “paint by number” script with nothing really inspiring. Nothing new was brought to the table. So this was a solid red light for me. The only good thing I can say about it was that it did have a few suspenseful moments. Jef Warning… Spoilers below… Ok what’s the deal with yet another movie changing around the “rules” of the classic horror movies. It was almost like they started making a werewolf movie, but then the writer became confused, and started writing this as a vampire movie. They made this movie to say that if you were bit by a werewolf then an “infection” is passed along to you and you turn into a werewolf. Ok, that makes sense, but, where they took liberties, is that you can be cured of your curse, by killing the werewolf that bit you. I know… creative license I guess. But why mess with a standard… Anyway, onto the acting… I thought I liked Christina Ricci. I saw her in “Sleepy Hollow” and I thought I liked her in that (It was a while ago). But, she was so annoying in this movie. Her “cutesy” act was sickening. Ya know, I could go on to bash this movie, but it’s really not worth it. The only thing that I walked away from this movie with, is a single thought… ‘Is it possible to have seen too many horror movies?’ I generally like horror movies. But I wonder that since I’ve seen so many that nothing “scares me” or rather that any horror movie plot is so stale that nothing comes as a surprise anymore. I would hate to think that from now on, I will give a red light to every horror movie that I see. Especially since I am looking forward to seeing “The Ring 2” which is due to open soon. Well, time will tell I suppose. Jef Side note: I happened to catch an interview with Christina on "The Daily Show - with Jon Stewart" and she mentioned that they reshot this movie twice, and some parts more. They also re-wrote many pieces. That should be a warning sign right there. I also noticed that Christina never actually said that this was a good movie.
