I’m giving this movie a yellow light because there was
a sick twisted entertainment value to it despite the fact that it was
a bad movie, with a totally unbelievable plot, and extreme violence.
Storyline: This is a sequel to the movie Final Destination.
The original movie was quite some time ago (2000). But I remembered somewhat
liking that movie as well. The original premise was that a group of kids
were taking a trip. Before they depart on their plane “Flight 180”
one of the guys has a premonition that the plane will crash, and they
will all die. After creating a disturbance he and his friends are booted
off the plane. And of course the plane crashes. But the twist comes in…
Death is portrayed as a sort of “entity” and having a consciousness
to it. And you cannot cheat Death. An interesting concept I have to admit.
Death then catches up on the group of friends and through unbelievable
coincidences knocks off those who were supposed to be on the plane. One
character (Clear Rivers) survives and makes it to the second movie as
a person who can offer some answers to a confusing storyline.
Onto the sequel… Basically the same exact plot as the first movie,
but this movie was less thought out. A young woman with an SUV full of
friends is about to get onto a highway. She has a premonition that there
will be a horrible wreck. After freaking out a little, she swerves the
SUV and blocks the on ramp and prevents the traffic behind her from entering
the highway. And of course, there is a horrible traffic accident. The
rest of the movie is about the group of strangers that were on the on
ramp and how death catches up to them.
I’m really not sure how to review this movie because it was bad.
There were no original twists in the sequel from the first movie. The
horrific ways the characters died were so over-the-top that it was actually
comical. And not just me, the entire audience let out gasps of disgust
that were quickly followed by laughs. I’ve often found myself criticizing
other moviegoers at laughing at tragic events. But for some unexplained
reason it seemed ok to laugh at this movie, perhaps because it was so
over-the-top.
There were quite a few things that I disliked about this movie. The plot
didn’t make sense. The first movie cleverly treated Death like it
was a conscious entity influencing natural events leading to a person’s
untimely death. Yet this movie seemed to just make things happen unnaturally
like a door closes by itself. Part of the gimmick that made the first
movie work well was that the circumstances around each death were still
rooted in coincidence.
I guess the bottom line for this movie is that it is a horror movie. If
your looking for a terrific storyline, or great acting, or any other criteria
that makes for a good movie, don’t expect to see it here. That being
said, if you’re looking for a B-horror movie with cliché
elements, and are in the mood for a little bit of a gore fest, then this
movie will entertain. Just try not to think about the plot after the movie
because trust me, it won’t make sense.

PS> Perhaps the best thing to come out of this movie is to realize
how dangerous it is to get onto a highway in a metal box on wheels and
travel at high rates of speed along with other people in fast moving boxes
of steel also traveling at high rates of speed, and HOPE that the other
people are paying attention.
Here’s what Lyn thought…
