Nutshell: Comic book dude from Hell (I guess…hence the name) helps the United States government with their ongoing battle with the forces of evil, mostly supernatural evil, and not much of the ordinary run-of-the-mill human evil type. I would imagine that would be unfair, beings that "Hellboy" has of powers from hell on his side. Sorry never read the graphic novels myself, so I really don’t know much about the character, and the film didn’t do much to help explain things. No matter…
First and foremost, I didn’t really want to see the film, but Jef did, so I can blame him for most of this. I mean it was an okay movie, good special effects, the story moved well, and the film had its funny parts. Although I could have pretty much guessed what was going to happen next, it still was in all sense enjoyable “Eye Candy”. Which was funny, just before the film started, Jef turned to me and pantomimed as if he were removing the brain from his head, and said “Won’t be needed this.” Then tossed the imaginary gray matter to the floor. He’s a funny guy, but in truth he was correct. It’s a good film, but don’t expect ‘Shakespeare’ here. It’s a comic book converted into a movie.
Oh and as for director ‘Guillermo del Toro’…Excellent choice in casting ‘Ron Perlman’ as the big bad red boy from Hades. Fine job Ron.
