A story about a recovering alcoholic, Kathy (Jennifer Connelly)
who loses her family home because of not paying back taxes. As her house
is up for auction, Behrani (Ben Kingsley) purchases the house for a steal.
Sounds like a very simple and “boring” plot line, but it’s
a wall for the serious problems both face and how this “house”
brings all of the bad parts out in the open.
Very well acted, and very dark. The story kept you on the edge of your
seat, as you felt something was going to happen (it had too, it’s
about a bloody house, how boring is that), but you certainly don’t
expect what actually happens to happen. It’s a prescription for
not knowing, really, what is going on in people’s personal lives.
Life is not perfect and you can’t disguise it as being so. I’m
not sure how much I really liked the ending, it was just such an unpredictable
ending that I was caught off guard, and for that reason, it worked.
Best of all, the acting was amazing and there will be no surprise if either
Jennifer or Ben (or both) are up for best actress/actor. Recommended if
you don’t wanna laugh
