A story about a gold digger and a lawyer who defends the gold diggee’s. My first mistake was not trusting my instinct when it was at theatres. It wasn’t interesting to me then, but it was the only DVD available that evening. I’m not a big fan of the Coen brothers… I’ve only seen 4 of their movies and Fargo was the only one I liked. I have not seen all, so there’s a possibility but 1 out of 4 are not great odds right now. I also shouldn’t put blame on the Coen’s, as the biggest disappointment was George Clooney. Maybe that is why I didn’t like O Brother, Where Art Thou. I like George Clooney, but as a debonair thinker (Ocean’s Eleven), not a comedian in the likes of these two movies. I’m sorry, but I do not find his comedy funny.

Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a self-absorbed gold digger. I’m not sure it’s much of a stretch for her. She plays the role very well, but again, is it acting or documentary-like (look at Chicago and America’s Sweethearts). There’s not a lot I can say, as it’s been almost a week since I saw it and it’s starting to fade from my memory.

I “started” to check out the extras on the DVD. There was one segment in black and white of train footage from the old days. I lost track of how many times the segment looped as I was fast forwarding it and it seemed to go on forever. I prefer watching the outtakes. Shouldn’t outtakes be funny?? I thought so. They weren’t in this case. A lot of “looping” dialogue that doesn’t get funnier and funnier!!

Sorry folks, not impressed with the movie at all and from now on will trust my original instincts.

Roblyn
