Um…okay. It's an action film, and you can't expect much from one
except being much more than eye candy. But Marianne & Cormac Wibberly
offer up a lighthearted big-screen adaptation of the 1960s TV series made
famous by Robert Culp and Bill Cosby. I have no comparison to the film
and TV characters portrayals in their respective role, since I unfortunately
never saw the original series, but Eddie Murphy and Owen West had a flawless
chemistry as onscreen duo Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott. I must say
I very much enjoyed this movie.
The film actually had a somewhat believable storyline, and moved very
quickly. The action sequences were subtle and not overwhelming, but nonetheless
impressive.
Also, it was nice to see Eddie Murphy in a role where he could play his
somewhat boisterous self without being too overbearing. Which in fact
was only complimented by the performance of Owen Wilson. His somewhat
straight man character to Murphy's obvious comedic role, kicked in and
took the edge off and softened the film that had all the potential of
being too over the top. And I would actually look forward to seeing an
"I Spy 2" with these two : ). Betty Thomas did a fine job with
the story and cast of character to turn out an understated and yet delightful
film. Bravo. Good film.
