I find it very difficult to comprehend these movies. I’m putting this film in the “Thin Red Line” Category… A film who has more than it’s share of famous actors and actresses and yet falls flat on its face.

Storyline: Steven Schats (Matthew Broderick) is a struggling screenwriter. He’s been carrying around a script in Hollywood in the hopes that if he can just show it to the right producer, that his movie will be made. Joe Devine (Alec Baldwin) is an FBI agent. In a round-about way he discovers a plan to run a sting on the local teamsters union in providence RI. He (and the FBI) are going to produce a “fake film” in order to catch the teamsters in a crime. In order to do that, they need a script. Joe meets Steven, and the movie production starts to run. The whole catch of the film is that there never really is the intent that the movie will really be made.

From now on, I’m going to put these “Thin Red Line” movies on the bottom of my must see list. I’ve been burned several times in the past and I’m not going to fall for it again.

How can a film with so many talented actors and actresses be a flop? Is it the script? The Directing? The actors? I don’t get it. My theory is that films like these are made only to showcase the actors and actresses with a dwindling career. They find one or two “big” names (Matthew Broderick and Alec Baldwin) and then pair up with others just to make a movie to get their names out there. People like Calista Flockhart (who’s savings account is probably getting low from her Ally McBeal days). Tim Blake Nelson, Buck Henry, Ray Liotta, (I don’t want to put Tony Shalhoub in this group because I like him, and think he’s very talented.)

The movie could have been a very funny comedy, but it all just felt too forced and cutesy. Yes, I chuckled a few times, but by the end of the movie I just wanted it to end. I can’t recommend this film to anyone, unless you are just looking for a movie to rent on the weekend because there is nothing else on TV.

Oh, Incase you didn’t get the “Thin Red Line” reference that was a movie made back in 1998. It was a war movie with a lot of big name actors, yet it was a horrible movie!

Here's what Lyn thought...
