Hmmm…tough one. Let me explain why for two reasons. Reason 1. – I fell asleep during the film for about 15 minutes (substitute for an uninteresting story I guess). And 2. – We walked out about ¾ of the way through the film. I wonder what color light this film should be… First and foremost, I never read any of the books in regard to the topic, this may be good or bad I don’t know, but what an awful subject for children’s books. I mean maybe they’re not even children’s books… I’m showing my ignorance, and my unwillingness to even care to find out. As a parent I don’t find the subject matter very appealing in this film. The kids lose their parents in a fire so they have to go live with a “Count Olaf” who wants to kill them so he can get their money and when that fails they move in with another relative, the Count kills that relative, then it’s off to the next relative, and Olaf strikes again, and then it’s finally back to Olaf’s. But we’ve come to find out that the only way Olaf can get the money is to wed the eldest Baudelaire daughter (she’s 14) and then kill the three of them. Now if that ain’t wholesome family entertainment, I don’t know what is! I’m sorry for spoiling any of the story for you, but I unfortunately didn’t find this film amusing nor entertaining. And that would probably be the reasoning behind not staying for the inevitable uplifting ending. But I can live with that… Lyn |
