I have to start with a simple question…who among hasn't ever been lost at some point in our life? And this is the charm of this film; it hits on a common thread within us all.

Take two complete strangers, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) and Bob Harris (Bill Murray) from different generations, kind of stuck in a foreign land, that happen upon each other by chance (or destiny), and of course joined by the before mentioned "common thread", they're lost.

Bob is perhaps a fading American actor in Tokyo filming some commercials to get some cash. Charlotte is the wife of a photographer on assignment, tagging along because she maybe had nothing else better to do at home. The two meet in the bar at the hotel they both are staying, nothing much at first, but the story evolves into a friendship. Bob's troubles: (other than being a fading American actor stuck more or less by lack of choice in Japan) his wife and children have become somewhat distant in probable regard to his constant distance from them. Charlotte's: an unintentionally ignored young wife to a young workaholic and somewhat flaky photographer husband. Charlotte is also an educated college graduate with a degree in philosophy and no direction as of yet to take it. Not exactly kindred spirit material, but they still had that common thread, and they needed to find each other.

It was interesting to see the relationship develop between the two, and truly heart-warming. Cause in my opinion we all need a little help sometimes, a kindred spirit to connect with, and someone who understands us as we do them, and all without much conversation. It's all kind of just understood.

Good acting, good film, and uplifting. Go see it.
