Okay nutshell: Captain Jack Aubrey (Russell Crowe) and his crew aboard the H.M.S. Surprise circa the Napoleonic Wars. Captain Aubrey's mission seems to be that of search and destroy of any French ship that might cross his path, and that's pretty much it. Although this story would appear to focus around one single French ship particularly. I hear this was to be sort of 'Gladiator' on the high seas kind of movie, probably because Crowe was the main character in both films. But, if that were the reason, then couldn't it be 'A Beautiful Mind' on a boat instead? Sorry, getting off the subject…

Anyway, I could see the comparison between the two films, being that Crowe's character was a well-adapted commander of men, but other than that I got more of the impression of 'Moby Dick' instead. Captain Aubery's single mindedness towards the French ship that turned more towards an obsession than a dutiful act for King and Country. But, not having read any of the 20 novels by 'Patrick O'Brian' in regards to the topic, I won't make any more assumptions.
All in all an okay film, although somewhat long-winded and predictable in its tale, still an interesting movie, but not quite good enough to warrant a 'Green Light'.
That is all…you're dismissed.
