First, I liked “Meet the Parents”. It was nice to see ‘Robert DeNiro’ in a comedic role, and in this he brings the same character to the screen we saw last time (which is a good thing). For that matter nothing has really changed from the first, except the location (again a good thing). As it can be disheartening to see characters change from one movie to the next without just cause to do so. Then we have Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) and Roz (Barbara Streisand) Focker, the complete opposite of the uptight Byrnes’. Bernie and Roz are openly honest, loving and caring, where as the Byrnes are well…the Byrnes. It is a comic mismatch that truly works well. I found myself laughing out loud on more than a few occasions. It was truly a pleasurable film; a little long in the tooth, but if that was the only thing, then fine. The acting was subtle, and the story was amusing. It was just a good simple film. Hmmm… now if all sequels could be like this…what a wonderful world it would be. Lyn |
