First and foremost I have to say the CGI in this film was in a lack of better words… flawless and spectacular. Unfortunately after 15 minutes or so, even that wears off and you have to count on a more than particularly obvious storyline. Not to help matters much, but once Rodney gets to the city ‘Fender’ (Robin Williams) enters his life. Nothing against Mr. Williams’ performance, but it’s that same wacky, zany, and tedious style that we’ve seen since “Mork & Mindy” way back in the late 70’s. I mean I like ‘Robin Williams’, I do however prefer his more serious role as in “Good Will Hunting” or “One Hour Photo” and the like, but cheese & crackers I’ve seen this goofball act for going on close to thirty years now, and I seriously don’t find it amusing anymore. Put it to rest for cripes sake. Yeah it was funny for a while (great in “Good Morning Vietnam”), but thirty years now? I mean its okay not to grow up, but at least try to act like a semi-normal kid. This I found kind of distracting along with the “Gee I wonder how this is going to end?” feeling, I truly was having a difficult time staying awake, which is most sad because the film had a very talented cast and a astonishing display of computer graphics. I will say this though, I’m sure my seven-year-old daughter will thoroughly enjoy the film when she sees it, and fortunately for me my wife has offered to take her, as to spare me the torture of having to sit through it again.
