I was hooked from the first five minutes…This is the perfect formula for what an action film should be. As I have said in the past an action film should be simple and not get caught up in its own pretense on being something more than it is. There is no complicated plot here, it sort of falls along the same guide line of the film "Midnight Run", you have a bounty hunter "Dwayne Johnson: The Rock" who is given the task of picking up what else, but a bounty being one 'Seann William Scott' deep in the jungles of Brazil. And that's the story. How complex do you need to get? Sure there is subplots regarding 'Freedom Fighters' and one evil gold mining overlord 'Christopher Walken', but not so much as to take away from the main theme which is of course is uh duh… action.

The fight scenes were simply phenomenal, and I am amazed and bewildered on how they were achieved. In comparison I thought that the fight scene between 'Neo' and the 'Agent Smiths' in "The Matrix: Reloaded" was truly awesome, but basically fails in comparison to the battles in "The Rundown". I swear I almost sat there slack-jawed and head spinning through the one encounter between the 'Freedom Fighters' and 'Beck' (Dwayne Johnson). Bravo to the fight chorographer, and the entire stunt personnel, a job sincerely well done.

The acting was appropriate for the film, nothing over the top. 'The Rock' was great, and makes an ideal action hero. He handled the role with grace and strength in perfect harmony to the other. Bravo. Plus a bonus, no stupid taglines were used that seem to curse and are now unfortunately expected from other action stars.

In conclusion, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this film for everyone. But, if you just want to go the movies and be entertained without a lot of thought being put into it…then go see this film.
