The saying goes "All that glitters is not gold…"
Simply put, just because you have a great cast and add in the "A"
typical action film ingredients (i.e. explosions, gun play, and car chases),
does not necessarily mean good cinema. Granted it's just an action film…or
otherwise known as "Eye Candy", but my biggest problem with
this movie was that I felt as if I was writing the story as it unfolded
in front of me. I knew what was going to happen well before it did, and
it was almost to the point of being ridiculous. I mean come on…if
I could predict the ending a half-hour before it happens, then someone's
not telling a good story. And it's not as if I dislike action movies cause
I believe I have five of my top favorite films listed in my profile under
that very category. Perhaps it's the subject matter? No…I think
other police films have done well before, so it's not that. Maybe because
it was a rehash of yet another in the seemingly endless supply of old
television shows converted to the big screen? Nope, cause if I'm not mistaken
those had different storylines and one or two that may not have had predictable
endings. Conclusion: This was just bad writing, period.
And another thing…wait a minute…the more I think about it,
I would love to continue to rip this film to shreds for so many more reasons
than just the poor writing, but you know…why bother?
On the other hand though if you like mindless action films with paper
thin plotlines…you should love this one.
Plus if you don't go see it…then they'll never make a "S.W.A.T.
2".
