A man named Dewey (Black) who “lives off” his roommate and plays with a go nowhere rock band is told to pay the bills or move out. He decides to take a temporary teaching job (mistakenly was meant for his roommate who is a teacher). He decides to teach his class about Rock-n-Roll and forms a band.

From a kid’s point of view, this movie would be very entertaining as Jack Black is the sorta guy who could do just that. I didn’t come across anything original in this movie, it was very predictable.

Joan Cusack is always enjoyable in a weird sort of way. What was cute was at such a young age, you could see what their futures were, Hollywood glam clothes designer, American Idol, etc. These kids were exceptional on their instruments, or it’s the best fake playing I’ve ever seen. That was the best part of the movie, seeing these kids actually play these instruments.

A definite plus for young audiences, but also an important message both kids and adults. The biggest message I got out of this movie was it didn’t matter if you were overweight, nerdy, or ugly. Everyone was treated equal and everyone was talented in his or her own way. A positive message, which, I wish more people took after. Who really cares what we look like, if we have a nice personality and are kind and just wanna have fun, what’s wrong with that?? Shallow Hal (which Black also did) got panned by many as degrading to large women. I on the other hand thought it was a great message. NOT to judge by the cover, but what’s underneath. I felt that message loud and clear. I did not find it degrading but uplifting. That’s how I feel about this movie. I don’t know if Black is choosing his roles, but I admire him for choosing uplifting movies with positive messages, but still being able to show his crazy talent. For that, it deserves a green. For originality of story line, I give it a yellow.
