First let me say that I really had no intention of seeing this film. I mean come on… I saw the first one so how different could this one be? Not to say I didn’t like the first one (because I did) but okay there’s an ogre, a talking donkey, and a princess (sounds more like the opening for a joke than a premise for a movie I was more commanded by my daughter to see this one. Not so much as I had no choice or anything, more as she’s six and just starting her interest in the movie going experience, and what kind of father and movie fan would I be if I told her we weren’t going just cause Daddy didn’t want to go. I thought this movie was totally hilarious, plain and simple. No, there was no deeply involved plot, and no it wasn’t much different than the first one, but in a way it was, and not just for the fact that it was funnier, it was something more. It had a nuance of what I am… I fan of movies. It was the clever little things in the background, that if you didn’t pay attention, you would miss. It was lines or moments from other films thrown in for effect, and not used just to rip-off, but to pay homage instead. It was the subtle attention to detail in the CGI that was nothing short of amazing in places. It was a film that involved me in its character, creativity, and charm, and that’s what made it different, and so well done. It’s hard to explain, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie more than the first, and highly recommend it. One more thing… Back to the little one, she loved it. There was one scene (not to spoil anything) but ‘Puss In Boots’ was coughing up a fur ball, and making faces similar faces to that of our cat when he does the same, and I swore she was going to go the bathroom in her seat from laughing so hard.
