Hmmm what to say…cute…funny…nothing earth shattering,
but to sum it up a nice little offering from Writer/Director Andrew Niccol.
However…it does bring up some rather interesting points. Such as,
how much as a "collective movie going sheep populous" are we
influenced by the actors cast in the role, than perhaps by the content
of the movie itself? Meaning…would you go to a movie knowing that
the actors in the movie weren't real people, and not meaning CGI characters
with celebrity voices, I mean not real at all even down to their artificially
created voices. Keeping in mind I have seen my share of independent films
where the actors have no other credits to their names except that film,
and there is a certain purity to it. Go to see a movie based solely on
the story? Who would ever think of it?
Next…does Hollywood let stars go too far? (i.e. - Winona Ryder's
character Nicola Anders) I could get into all kind of examples of this
(including Ms. Ryder herself), but what's the point, it's all about the
money. If the herd will shell out dollar after dollar to see an actor
no matter what they do or are like in their personal life, what differences
does it make? A lot. Period.
But back to the film (and kind of the main idea for the reason of this
site), Al Pacino performed wonderfully as the somewhat under appreciated
visionary dinosaur director Viktor Taransky. Kudos. Oh yeah...and everybody
else did swell too. : )
I think there is a review in there somewhere. : )
