I really can’t think of anything good to say about this
movie, other than it was nice to see Mickey Rourke and Jason Schwartzman
again. Unfortunately why they chose this movie to star in I really can’t
understand. I think Schwartzman is a talented actor going back to “Rushmore”.
Even in this messed up film, you got to see some of his talent showing
through his character.
I almost hate to tell the basic storyline, because someone out there might
say, “Hey, I might like to see that”.
I suppose I should give a VERY brief storyline…
The movie is all about drug addicts. Specifically, addicts hooked on “Speed”.
Ross (Jason Schwartzman) is the main character who happens to be the only
one who owns a car. The movie follows him around on his adventures to
find his next score, and in the process he becomes “The Cook’s”
(Mickey Rourke) personal chauffeur. That’s about it I’m afraid.
There were some additional derelict characters thrown in who were also
drug dealers, or users, like John Leguizamo, Mina Suvari, Patrick Fugit
(who drove me crazy because I could not think what the other movie that
I saw him in… It was “Almost Famous”.) And then throw
in a handful of cameos like “Deborah Harry (Blondie), Ron Jeremy
(a famous porn star), Billy Corgan (lead singer to Smashing Pumpkins),
Rob Halford (Ex-Lead singer to Judas Priest), and I think you’ve
probably got the strangest cast ever assembled for a motion picture.
I’m really not sure what kept Lyn and I in our seats, and why we
didn’t walk out on this movie, except maybe it was the fast paced
action in the movie. I kept waiting for something good to make the movie
about more than just a bunch of strung-out whakos.
I also think the way the director showed the “effects” of
speed as it entered their systems was “lifted” from the movie
“Snatch” directed by Guy Ritchie.
Skip this movie at all costs.
