Ahhh…back to one of my favorites, a "Slice of Life"
film. In this particular
piece of the pie we take a peek into Finbar McBride's life thus far (played
extraordinarily well by actor Peter Dinklage). Fin(bar) is a model train
repairperson living above the shop he works in Hoboken, New Jersey. Fin
inherits a piece of property in which moves into, located in the very
small town of Newfoundland, New Jersey. Fin is a dwarf, and in his life
finds that solitude has always been a very good companion. But, beings
that he now finds himself in a small town that seclusion may not be the
easiest thing to find, unfortunately (or not).
That's pretty much the outline, but the film runs much deeper than its
synopsis. It is a finely acted and well-written portrayal of a semi-antisocial
man (Fin) thrust (unwilling as it may be) into life around him. The film
flowed effortlessly, and was truly a pleasure to watch. It was sad, funny,
and heart-warming.
Best of all, it gives you a glance (that we should all take from time
to time) into another persons life and the dilemmas that that involves,
and are so often overlooked because of the shadows of our own lives.
But basically…a good film…and bravo and well done by everyone
involved. Thank you.
