Interesting premise; Albert Marloyski (Jason Schwartzman) is having trouble figuring out if the person he keeps running into in three totally unrelated circumstances is just that, a mere coincidence, or does it have some deeper meaning. Good question in and of itself, “Is there such a thing as coincidence, or is it all part of a greater design?” So like the “Nutshell” touched on, he finds a business card of an existential detective agency in the pocket of a jacket, which coincidentally does not belong to him. Who better suited to help him with his predicament? Another coincidence? Hmmm…much to ponder, or perhaps not… I really didn’t know what to expect, and truly knew little if not anything about this film, other than it had an eclectic cast, and had a flavor of the “The Royal Tannenbaums”, a movie I truly enjoyed. But, instead I found a mild comedy about just that, the meaning of life, or so to speak. And beings that I’ve already been on that journey and found little or nothing, I didn’t find it to be comedic, nor enlightening, instead I found it flat and somewhat boring. Not that I’m saying that the pursuit of such questions to be trivial, unfortunately it’s not my cup of tea anymore. Although it seemed that most of the audience including Jef thought it humorous, I unfortunately did not. So in a broader sense, I would imagine you might like it, I mean if you’re into all that “I think, therefore I am” stuff…great. But my response to that theory came to be…”Well if reality is only a concept at best…then prove it.” I come from a different school of thought, and that life is what is, and it should be lived and not time wasted trying to figure it’s meaning. I believe in everything, and nothing at all, and that the true importance is in the questions, and not necessarily in the answers…Anyway, back to “wasted time” and I’ve got this to say about that…106 minutes of my life watching this film this film. The end. Lyn |
