Nutshell:
A prominent robot scientist (James Cromwell) is found dead from an apparent suicide, and Robot-hater police detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) is brought in to investigate.

I have to admit I didn’t truly expect much from this film. I thought the advertising was being pushed a little too hard. It seemed like every time I turned around it was ‘I, Robot’ this or ‘I, Robot’ that. Even so far as to invade one of my favorite shows ‘American Chopper’ with the ‘I, Robot’ bike they were making for the film’s premiere. Then of course there was the making of ‘I, Robot’ on ‘HBO’, which I don’t like to confess, but I did watch it. Now see, I usually don’t watch or read much about a film before seeing it. I like to go into a movie with as little information as possible, so as not to taint or bias my preconceptions in any way. But, I was so hyped about seeing this film I was like a sponge for anything in regard to the film, and I figured I was in for a huge let down, because when a movie company pushes a film this hard, they’re trying to sell a book by its cover, cause there ain’t much on the inside. But, despite my apprehensions… the movie was amazing.

I simply loved this film. The action was subtle, and not over the top, but still relentless. I sat there in slacked-jawed wonder in its simplicity. It was like they were telling an intelligent story, and the action was just an added bonus.

And in regard to the story… near flawless, and it all made sense. There is a fault in most science-fiction films with me, as much as I may like them, they have a tendency to not make logical sense in certain areas, a flaw that can be easily overlooked if the film in and of itself was enjoyable. But there’s always something, you know. It’s not that I look for them, they just pop up, and then there they are forever… like a classic album that skips in a certain song. A great album, but there’s always gonna be that part that will never go away…Yeah I know…buy the CD. Anyway, this film was different in that fact that it all made sense, and for that alone it should be applauded.

It was like it was just the right mixture of everything, fine acting, an intriguing story, and special effects that only complimented it. Bravo and well done.

Now please don’t ruin it and make an ‘I, Robot 2’.

Lyn
